An Attitude of Worship

Why is it that when we go to church, we don’t always leave with the feeling that we’ve been in the presence of God? Does the problem lie with God or with us?

I think we all know the answer to that. God is always there. Often we are just going through the motions and don’t really try to connect with God. I’ve been just as guilty as the next person.

So, why do we have trouble connecting with God, whether it’s at church or any other place of our choosing? I think that there are so many distractions in the world today, that we aren’t focused on Him like we should be.

In my reading this week, I ran across this quote from Allen Ross in his book, Recalling the Hope of Glory.

If worshipers leave a service with no thought of becoming more godly in their lives, then the purpose of worship has not been achieved. If they walk away from an assembly without a conviction that they need to conform their lives to Holy Scripture, even if it means changing their lifestyle, then worship has been perverted somewhere…. The clear teaching of Scripture is that genuine worship is life changing.

Ross, 149

This speaks volumes to me about the attitude of worship in our churches today. I am not criticizing anyone more than myself. Some weeks, I feel convicted and truly feel the presence of God while worshiping. Other times, I fight to keep my mind and focus on praising the Almighty Father.

Keep moving toward that life changing focus!

I don’t think I’m alone in this. I think that reaching this attitude is certainly attainable and it’s something that I continue to strive toward. Keeping my focus on the holiness of God and the sacrifice that Jesus endured for my sake is a goal I continue to reach toward. God is there, it’s up to me to reach out to him.

I hope that you are connecting and moving forward in your faith walk.

In Faith,

Pam
