Why Me, Lord?

This blog post is my take on my pastor, Jon Porter’s sermon from 10/20/24.

The story Kris Kristofferson tells about what led up to his writing the song “Why Me, Lord?” is an incredible story of the hand of God at work in a man’s heart. You can watch him tell about it on this YouTube video.

Paul wanted the Gentiles to understand how incredible God’s love is. Something so incredible that it’s hard to believe. The trick is to move it from your head to your heart.

God’s love is something that must move from head knowledge to heart knowledge.

You know the person running against the candidate you support? The person that hurt you in some way, the one it’s difficult for you to love? Well, God’s love is wide enough to cover them. God still loves those who do evil. The hijackers, the person you can’t stand who has done nothing to deserve God’s love, those who’ve never known God. No one is beyond his reach! We’re called to love these people.

God’s love stretches beyond time. God loved me at my absolute worst. Try me, Lord. Put someone in my path that is walking the same kind of path I was walking so that I can share your love with them.

The enemy wants to tell us we’re unlovable. He’s a liar!

God takes you as you are, but he doesn’t intend you to stay there.

God loves even the heavy-hearted, down trodden and helps them see hope. It’s our task to lift them up in love.

If you’ve been loved by the grace of God, overflowing with abundant love, it’s your mission to share that love with others who’ve never felt it.

Just like the farmer who throws seeds everywhere so that everyone has a chance to know God, you must do the same. We lift people up so they can see things at a higher perspective. Christ’s love goes to the deepest, darkest parts of our lives. Let it transform the way you believe!

Where do you need to experience God’s love?

Christ died for sinners who had no use for him.

Live, transform, share your faith with others!

Set aside time to experience, think about God’s love. Look at what he’s done in the past.

Ask God to work in the areas you’re struggling.

In prayer, let God transform the areas of your life.

Would Jesus condemn the way some preachers do today?

Politicians want Christians‘ votes, but not their values.

We can’t spew hate and be a Christian.

Experience the fullness of God’s love.

Reflect the goodness of God’s love through acts of kindness.

Meet God where he meets you! There’s nothing you can do to earn his love because he gives it to everyone whether they deserve it or not. Accept it!

Why me, Lord? What have I ever done to deserve even one of the pleasures I’ve known? Tell me, Lord. What did I ever do that was worth loving you, or the kindness you’ve shown?

Lord help me, Jesus, I’ve wasted it so help me Jesus, I know what I am But, now that I know, that I needed you so help me, Jesus, my soul’s in your hand.

In Faith,

Pam
