When we think of darkness, it’s usually in the sense that we can’t see. But, sometimes it’s an emotional or spiritual darkness that seems to hang over us. Pastor Jon Porter encouraged us this week to remember that this is a season of hope. Light is breaking into the darkness.
Hope isn’t just a wish, it’s faith in Jesus!
Fear creeps in when we can’t see where we’re going and it’s easy to lose perspective in those circumstances.
A great light has dawned. The very first words in the Bible tell us this.

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.
And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. — Genesis 1:1-2
God’s first words in the Bible included darkness and light. There will be both in our lives. There is the promise that darkness will not overcome the light.
The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.—Isaiah 9:2
The light doesn’t let us hide. The room is the same in the darkness as in the light. We just couldn’t see everything in the darkness. Problems feel bigger in the darkness, but when we let Jesus into our lives, he shows us the truth.
Where do you need Jesus to bring clarity in your life? He is still in control and he’s leading the way. Follow him.
How do you get out of the dark? Pray, read scripture, seek wise counsel.
Light brings hope. The light that you may see in the distance may seem small, but it brings hope.
Hope isn’t pretending. We believe that God is working even when we can’t see him because we know that he promises to never leave us. We may just need to ask him to give us direction.
Jesus was never meant to stay in the manger!
We can get used to the dark. Quit focusing on it and focus on the life that God has blessed you with. See the good!
Your challenge this week is to find the light. Write your story and find the light. Take the next right step!
