Did you ever think about your purpose on earth? I’m sure that we each see our purpose differently, but why did God create us in the first place? What is it that we are supposed to do?
At the beginning of the book of John, he is describing the light shining in the darkness and all of a sudden he introduces John the Baptist. “He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe. He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.” -John 1:7-8

This introduction must have been pretty important to interrupt describing the beginning of the world. But then, what could be more important a task than being a testimony that Jesus Christ was the Son of God? Why does God use people who are broken so often in the lineage and following of Jesus? A virgin, a carpenter, the angels announcing the baby’s arrival to, of all people, shepherds? John the Baptist, who was the witness to the light of the world, lived in the wilderness and ate honey and locusts and wore fur as his clothing. I can’t think of a more humble beginning for a Savior.
So what is your purpose here on earth? Are you waiting for God to tell you what your purpose is? God just asks us to shine as the light that brings the gospel to those who don’t know him. We don’t all need to be missionaries or preachers to accomplish this. He wants us to shine where we are. Right where are now, in this place. So, what does that mean? I think it means in our place of work, in our every day lives, wherever that takes us. To the grocery store, at the bank, the gas station. Whoever we see at any given time may need us to be a witness to them of the hope, the joy that we have in our relationship with Jesus. God uses us as witnesses. He sends us.
Remember, it’s not about you. It’s not about me. It all about God! As a believer, someone had to share the light with you? Who was it that pointed the way to Jesus for you? My aunt and uncle who raised my dad were the ones who really showed me what faith in Jesus was all about. I remember how faithful they were in the way they lived their lives. Such good examples of how believers should live.
Our preacher, Jon Porter, challenged us this morning: What’s the next page in your story? God has written you into his plan. How will you shine? Don’t box it up and hide the gift. Share your light with everyone you come in contact with. Live so that others want what you have!
I hope that you can find a nugget of inspiration in what you find here at wheregodleads.com. My writings come from the things God puts on my heart and from the sermons my preacher lays on our hearts each week. May you be blessed by reading.
