Christmas Joy

Christmas has been tough since my dad spent the holiday in the hospital in 2000. Christmas was always a very special time of year for him. I just couldn’t get into it that year, I haven’t sent out Christmas cards like I did before that year. I didn’t want to decorate or do any of the fun stuff that we did during that time of year.

We did go to the Christmas program at the church we went to at the time. It was very special. I was able to celebrate the birth of Jesus, but couldn’t do the extras that we did around the house.

I’m not really sure why, but I feel more joy during this Christmas season than I have in a long time. Both of my parents are gone now, as well as my mother and father-in-law. Realizing that a big part of my family is gone, makes it a little nostalgic thinking of the past.

Christmas isn’t about the gifts, it’s more about spending time with friends and family and celebrating the reason for the season. Remembering the baby that we celebrate is the most important part. Reading the story of Jesus’ birth on Christmas Eve was something I liked to do to help remember the importance of the holiday.

So, as you spend time with friends and family this year, think of the baby that came into the world to save you and I from the consequences of our sins. He paid the ultimate price, but overcame the grave by rising again.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from my house to yours!

In Faith,

Pam
