What About Spiritual Gifts?

Spiritual gifts are given to us by the Holy Spirit when we receive the gift of salvation. “Christ has generously divided out his gifts to us.” -Eph 4:7 Image by Bob Dmyt from Pixabay

I’ve been interested in spiritual gifts for sometime. We did a study about it years ago in a Sunday School class. The results were very interesting to me. I didn’t really think I had the gifts that were pointed out to me, but I’ve seen them become more prominent as I’ve gotten older.

So, by now you realize we’re not talking about packages that we exchange and open like on Christmas morning. But, the gifts that we’re given by the Holy Spirit. He determines what the gifts are, we don’t ask for them. And they’re not gifts we’re supposed to keep, after all, a gift is something we give away, right?

These gifts are given to us so that we can build others up to strengthen their faith. So they are for the benefit of people that God brings into our lives. We may use them to bring up our children or share them with other family members. All of the people that come into our lives at some point and time may actually receive these gifts from us.

But, we can also receive gifts from others. Just as we share our gifts, so does everyone else. We all have a gift that we’ve been blessed with. The church has people in leadership positions that share their gifts with us all the time, however, we shouldn’t expect them to do all the work. We each have gifts that we can contribute to the church. One person may be really good at organizing events or decorating, because they have an artistic knack. Someone else may be good at teaching and may be involved in children’s ministry or with the youth group or teach a Sunday school class.

I’d like to delve into the different kinds of gifts that the Holy Spirit may use to help equip the building up of the body of Christ! So, I’ll do that in the next couple of blog posts. Until next time, give some thought to what gifts you have been blessed.

In Faith,

Pam
