Have you ever felt a nudge from God to do something that you know nothing about? It seems like as I get older, He puts more of these challenges in front of me than I would ever have imagined. Did you ever think that God has been preparing you for this moment for years? I can think back to the fourth grade when I first joined band. I began learning to play the trumpet. I know it’s not what I do now, but that’s where I first began to learn about music theory. I learned how to read music and then I took piano lessons.
Tonight, our church praise band played at a revival at a church in a nearby community. We had never performed outside of our own congregation before. A week ago, I got a call from a friend asking if we could be a part of this revival. They’d had a cancellation due to health reasons. When God puts something in front of me, sometimes it just seems right. But later, Satan starts to put doubt in my mind. He whispers in my ear, “who do you think you are? What makes you think you can succeed at this? What if there’s a big crowd and they don’t like the kind of music you play? What if your music is too loud? You don’t sing good enough.”
It was a stressful week as I prepared the music list and the band practiced extra to make sure we were ready. Remembering all of the things we needed to bring with us including instrument cords, music stands, instruments, drums, drumsticks, drum seat, a stick drive with the lyrics on a PowerPoint. So much in such a short time. I am a worrier. Not a good skill to have! Actually, it’s more like a curse. A sin. Doubting God’s promise that he will be the strength in your weakness.
So how do we overcome this inability to believe that God will always be by our side? Pray, often. Believe that he’ll do what he says he’ll do. Listen to God when he talks to you. Trust him above all others.
If God has put something on your heart, but you’re not sure that you can do it, pray about it. Share your concerns with him. He is faithful and he will provide what you need.
Step out in faith. Try something new. Believe that he’ll help you with whatever you need. He loves you and would never forsake you.
In Faith,
Pam
