Giving From The Heart

“They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life. -1 Tim. 6:17-19

Giving from the heart just makes me feel good. You, too? Yeah, there’s just something that causes my heart to feel hugged when I give to others. It doesn’t have to be money, either. It could be giving of my time to help a neighbor or giving someone forgiveness for doing wrong toward me.

This morning’s church service was such a blessing. Our praise team got the day off and our pastor had some friends of his lead worship this morning. I must say that I was able to just relax and worship this morning. So thankful for Brian Poling and his group for sharing their Sunday with us!

TREASURE PRINCIPLE #5 – Giving is the only antidote to materialism.

It’s hard to follow God’s lead sometimes, because we’re not looking for it or it’s not the direction we want to go in. But we can’t follow Jesus if we’re not living a life in tune with him. Satan puts thoughts in our head that are not of God. When we feel led in a particular direction, we need to first of all see if it lines up with scripture. If not, we can be sure it’s not coming from God. He would not lead us down a road that doesn’t support his Word.

This sermon was not about tithing. It was about giving, no matter what form that may take. It may be that we’ve been holding onto something that we need to give up to God. Anger, fear, disappointment, hurt, and control are all things that can keep us from receiving God’s full blessing. We can’t receive it until we loosen the grip and open our hands and our hearts to him that we are able to gain what he has to offer.

We were created for God’s purpose. It’s all about Him, not about us. When we live life the way Jesus would have us live, we speak His truth and people know we are His by the way we live. We model Jesus by the joyful surrender to a greater God with a greater agenda. All that we have is God’s. He has made us caretakers of His money and resources. What would he have us do with it? If you’re not sure, pray about it.

Jon says that “giving affirms Christ’s lordship in my life because it dethrones me and exalts him.” That’s part of what reminds me it’s about Him. “Giving doesn’t strip me of treasure and blessing, it shifts my treasure from earth to heaven.”

Love big and travel light because we’re just passing through…we’re not home yet.

In Faith,

Pam
